Mal Eastick was there at the coalface in the golden years of Aussie rock and Cronulla’s  Brass Monkey will provide a rare opportunity to catch the Australian Blues guitar legend on stage.

Eastick and his ‘Spirit’ band, featuring John Makey on vocals and Rudy Miranda on drums, will perform at the shire venue on Friday, August 5.

Eastick is considered to be one of Australia’s finest electric Blues guitarists, with a passionate, explosive and soulful style that has been featured with many International and Australian acts for more than 40 years.

And now the acclaimed guitarist is giving a young shire singer/songwriter or duo a leg-up in their careers by allowing them to open for him.

The sound is important but someone with a story to tell, street-cred and an opportunity to play with a  professional awaits. The only stipulation is they must be from the Sutherland Shire – a local act for a local gig.

Eastick has played with the likes of Robert Cray, Los Lobos, Buddy Guy, George Thorogood, Joe Walsh, Junior Wells, Eric Burdon and The Animals, Tommy Emmanuel, Jimmy Barnes, Kevin Borich, and many more.

His early career was epitomised by his time with legendary band, Stars, and his work on the Andy Durant Memorial concert.Stars achieved  national success during the mid to late 1970s and toured in support of acts like Joe Cocker, Linda Ronstadt, and The Beach Boys.

In the 80s he played in the Jimmy Barnes Band, featuring on Jimmy’s first two solo albums, Bodyswerve and For The Working Class Man.

He also formed his own touring outfit doing the pub circuit and released two albums, Southern Line and Spirit.

Eastick also has quite a story to tell regarding his recent rehabilitation after major surgery, and he is privileged to be able to get back on the road and let his music speaks for itself.

In 2014 Mal and his band competed in and made the semi–finals of The International Blues Challenge in Memphis, US, which saw them record at the legendary Sun Studios in the footsteps of Elvis and Johnny Cash.
